Well, only a little delusional!! :-) Keep in mind that, even with a
complete resto, these cars are still over 23 years old. The engine
technology used when they were built requires more regular maintenance for
things like valve lash adjustment.
If you buy the best restored example of MGB that you can find, and you
religiously follow every regular maintenance procedure, you will have a very
reliable car. The regular maintenance is quite a bit more than you had with
a Miata, though.
As far as more modern items "with appropriate 21st century upgrades in
carburation, ignition, rebuilt engine & tranny," you will still have an early
20th century engine with later 20th century refinements. It will still
require a lot of regular maintenance. And where will you find a 21st century
carburetor?!?
