Yes, I have checked several times and the rear core plug looks intact. But
a valuable clue finally came up this evening. So far, there has never been
any sign of leakage on the ground until tonight when finally a pool of
antifreeze appeared. Maybe as much as a cup or so was spotted near the
ground by the passenger door when I parked it after a short drive. I looked
for a trail to see the spot of origin and it appears that it may very well
be the heater core. Another difference was that this time the car was not
on level ground when I parked it at the curb - the curb side was a bit
lower than the road which could allow the coolant to leak out of the heater
box. Normally, the car is not quite level as the right rear is about 1/2"
higher than the car's other three corners. And naturally, this is probably
the worst place to have a leak. Oddly enough, I figured I'd have to top up
the radiator and yet it really did not need more than about a pint at most.
I still plan on running a compression check when I get time and will do
some other investigating to be sure this is the problem. I should have it
fully cracked before the weekend.
