As someone else has said they don't, the ECU is between the sensor and the
gauge.  The gauge only goes up if the ECU thinks the sensor is reading
higher than a normal range.  The RV8 has this feature, which I suggest
renders the temp gauge completely superfluous, an audible and visual warning
in the event of the ECU detecting something untoward would make far more
sense.  The RV8 doesn't have an oil pressure gauge, which is something else
I have always thought was only put there to worry paranoid owners.
