Depending on your situation, XP can be a downgrade from 2000. XP home has
some serious limitations when it comes to sharing files. Basically Microsoft
crippled this version so that people would have to buy XP Pro. XP Home's
security model is also exceedingly poor -- it is wide open to viruses,
spyware and other such stuff (including the the spyware installed by Sony's
music CDs). Finally, unless you have 512MB of RAM, XP is going to be very
slow.
XP Pro's security model is a little better -- except that most people set
their user accounts to have administrator privileges, which makes the system
wide open.
