One of the best ways to speed up WIN98 is shut down all of those TSR (Terminate 
and Stay Resident) programs that load.  For example shut down the task 
scheduler so it doesn't start.  Another is to go on the internet and download 
the free version of 98 lite.  It allows you to use the faster and smaller WIN95 
shell with WIN98 kernal.  I am using that process on a old Tosheba laptop that 
originally came with win 3.1.
