I love my NavMan but had some issues with it in my 'B - luckily the 'B travels
mostly by trailer these days and the GPS is in the tow vehicle.

In the 'B I often sat the thing on my lap so I could hear it, and when I
needed to see it I would pick it up and look (between indicating and gear
changes).

Rarely having anyone in the navigator's seat, or at night with no overhead
light, I hated having to stop and refer to a street directory. My technique
was to memorise the journey as far as I could, and then stop at that point and
memorise the next leg (which was hopefully the last bit unless it was a LONG
journey).

Now I turn the thing on as soon as I get in the car. It reminds me when I go
over the speed limit. It automatically tells me about hazards on my route
(and automatically re-directs me around them). It tells me about speed and
red light cameras, and rail crossings and school zones. With my GPS and
cruise control, I haven't had a speeding ticket in many years - and without
cruise control in the 'B a warning from the GPS was vital to keep me out of
the hands of the law.

I really can't live without a GPS now.

AND where it is most valuable is when I drive interstate and have no idea
where I am going it takes me there (I always take it with me if I will be
renting a car in another State).

And yes, you can plug in headphones/earphones - but in Australia you are
likely to get pulled over by the cops. They don't like the thought you may
not be able to hear warning signals and emergency vehicle sirens because your
ears are blocked (and they probably thing you are listening to loud music).
Oh yeah, the NavMan manual says "at full power, prolonged listening to your
Navman via headphones or earphones can damage the ear of the user" so there.

Do what you need to do - but don't be put off by these fuddy duddy naysayers
:)

This is what I currently have - and I have had it for a few years now:

I find the 4.7" touchscreen and their graphics really easy to see, and it
really isn't one of the most expensive units going around.
