Gary,

Your suggestion about the article in "Classic & Sports Car" does indeed
provide all the definitive answers, pro and con. I heartily endorse it for
George.

As to your own vehicle, if it is pinging under load, make certain that the
advance is not greater than 6 degrees BTDC. My 1995 Defender 90 Station
Wagon runs fine at 9 degrees with Sunoco "Ultra" (94 RON) with an
occasional dose of Sunoco "Cam II Racing Unleaded" (100 RON).
If everything is set up correctly, you may just be building up some carbon
deposits, in which case add a can of BG "Supercharge" to a full tank of
fuel prior to your next oil change. DO NOT USE THE STRONGER BG
PRODUCT. If all that provides no relief, you may have the wrong chip,
or need a different one for a different Range Rover. Does your fuel in
Ohio have grain alcohol content?... Very, very bad. Amoco is alleged
to use none of this foul stuff in their 93 RON for all 50 States. You
might want to verify with their marketing people that this is still the case.

The Brits won't know what we're talking about as they can obtain
97-98 RON anywhere... but then, again, they have to PAY for it.

Regards,
