Hi All,
We just got done reworking the windscreen on our '56 Plus 4 and had this very
discussion. The decision I made was one of visual appeal and regard to the
reference photos I reviewed. The shots I saw seemed evenly divided, which
only confused things. Layperson logic and my shop pointed toward the rubber
facing forward as air flow/pressure would insure a good seal. It's
interesting to read Greg's advice regarding the seal the other way. I
suppose it has to do with the flex created by the arch in the rubber exiting
the windscreen base.
Ultimately, I think that it looks cleaner to face it toward the cockpit and
that's what I did. We have a folding windscreen and running it re-ward (?)
puts less strain on the rubber allowing the glass to lay down easily.
Now, we had the chance to test this installation in a driving rainstorm and
very wet conditions in our ralley run 2 weeks ago...very little leakage. We
got more water in the cockpit from many other places around the scuttle,
firewall and floorboards. That'll be my next task, finding the nooks and
crannies for sealing. Any advice??
