I learned to drive 30 years ago and have always worn seat belts and
shoulder harnesses. When I drive, I like to feel connected to the car.
That's why I hate no-feel steering, no-feel brakes, and no-feel
suspensions. When buckled in I feel connected because I am connected. If I
am not wearing belts I feel like loose cargo. I dunno, maybe I'd feel
differently if I'd learned to drive on a car without belts.

PS Chuck, I wouldn't be so hard on our European friends. As we all know
from experience, masculinity and stupidity are inseparable qualities. For
instance, history books tell us that 80+ years ago, millions of our
European bretheren ran headlong - bayonets fixed - into massive machine gun
fire with obvious consequences. Day after day for years. No need to mention
the even bigger show the survivors and their sons put on 20 yrs afterward.
I am sorry to say, driving without a seat belt ranks pitifully low on the
masculinity scale compared to all that.
