Christian and All,
I had a parking lamp bezel conversation with a knowledgable tech rep at
Brothers in CA. He told me that the cost for tooling for reproductions
costs about $200,000. Therefore the repro guys go after the High Volume
items first. If you just look as Task Force pickups, The 58-59 GMC is the
least common. Add that to the fact that the 58-59 GMC parking lamp bezel
assembly is complicated (a riveted assembly of plastic and metal and the
plastic has that reflective coating applied from behind) and you can see why
it is not reproduced (yet??). The originals die because plastics in the 50's
did not have the UV (ultraviolet light) stabilizers available in modern
plastic and therefore become brittle and crack easily. They are also
vulnerable in even minor front end collisions. I have contacted this list
multiple times in my search for a replacement for the demolished LH parking
lamp bezel in my 59 and after almost 2 years have not found a suitable
replacement. The dome lenses which perch over the light socket i nthe
center of the bezel appear similar to chevrolet park lamps but I have not
verified them a a workable lenses replacement. As for the bezel, I may give
up and fab a piece of polished aluminum or stainless and mount a Chevy
P.L.Assembly in the center..beats an ugly hole in the grill. Anyone else
have creative ideas?

Another old unresolved issue, did the fleetside 58-59 GMC carry a script
logo on rear upper box like the "fleetside" logo on Chevrolet. Was it called
"Wideside" ? Anybody ever see a "Wideside" script at a swap meet?
