Tom, there is air in the system somewhere. Check the fluid level in the
master cylinder, then start looking for leaks - shortly after I got my
truck, I had a similar problem and it was due to a rusted-out brake line
coming out of the master cylinder. That was about the only line that the PO
(a plumber) hadn't replaced with copper tubing - not sure which was worse.
