...though if anyone has a gutted radio for a '54, PLEASE let me know! The
'54 dash has a different size and shape radio as the rest of the AD
trucks, as far as I can tell.

A few extra words on my sound setup: The Blaupunkt deck in my glove box
came with a free remote control, which has an infrared "eye" on the end of
a long cord that can be placed anywhere. I can place the "eye" in an
inconspicuous location, and all that can be seen of my stereo system is
the tiny 3/4" long remote control nestled in the corner of my steering
wheel -- or it'll look that way once I figure out how to install the dash
speakers under the dash. This also helps in "security through obscurity"
- - a quick glance at the inside of the cab will probably not reveal that I
have a stereo, unless the would-be thief notices the remote.... plus, it
looks a whole lot cooler than having a modern stereo out there in the
middle of all that 1950's glory.

I'm not sure if I mentioned this before, but when I was searching for a
way to install a modern stereo in my truck without detracting from its
look, I came up with the idea of using the detachable faceplate that most
new stereos come with as a "remote control." Some of the stereos I looked
at were capable of operating with the face plate removed (providing that
the stereo was turned on with the face plate installed). If someone were
to run cables from the contacts on the back of the face plate to the
contacts on the front of the stereo, the face plate could be installed
anywhere in the cab, perhaps in a "flip down" capacity under the dash.
Just an idea.
