Jeff, I just got the June issue of "The Old Cars Price Guide", so I looked
up the 1958 GMC. Well, for some reason, GMC info is not included in this
issue ("to be included in future issue"). So I looked up the info for a
1958 Chevy stepside 1/2 ton. The prices listed are for all 6 categories
(1=perfect restoration with NO flaws, and 6=a parts truck). Sounds like
from your description that the '58 GMC is somewhere between a 5 and a 6
category. (Just email me if you want OCPG's descriptions of the 6
categories.) A #6 condition '58 Chevy stepside 1/2 ton is listed for
$550.......and a #5 condition is listed for $1700. Based on this, I'd say
the guy is asking too much for the '58 GMC. Just my 2 cents worth, Jeff.
Bottom line......it's all in the eyes of the beholder. Good luck no matter
what you decide.
