Thanks guys for all of the on-list and off-list responses! Ya'll are
very helpful.

I'll go out to Dad's later this week and find out what the serial number
is. One member suggested the idea that it could be a fleet truck. I
think that's an interesting idea, but my truck does have quad
headlights, rather than the single headlights, so I think the fleet idea
might be out. I'm planning on getting the truck across town to my house
soon to start digging into it.

A previous owner did do some modifications on it at some point. It has
a 350 V-8 from a 1971 Impala under the hood, and it also has the
Impala's bench seat, steering wheel, turn signal selector (the stalk is
banded onto the steering column) and rear end (rear discs!). There's an
automatic transmission in the truck as well, though I'm not sure whether
it came from the car or not. Whoever did it, put the gear selection in
backwards, as you push the floor shifter forward into gear, rather than
pulling it back from park. :) My "friends" in h.s. used to call me
Lamont (musta been the glasspacks). I diligently tried to point out
that Fred Sanford drove a Ferd! :)

Steve and Bill, that's what my dash looks like, except that I have
white-rimmed gauges on a red background. Thanks for the pics. I'll
take some pics of my truck when I go out there and post them on my
website next week.

Ya'll have a good day,

Jason

Subject: [oletrucks] New Member and Question

Hello,

I just joined your group and wanted to introduce myself. My name is
Jason and I live near Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I have a 1958 Chevrolet
Pickup. I've owned it since 1993 and I am getting ready to do a
frame-off rodstoration on it. Right now, it's sitting on my father's
property and hasn't been driven since 1995. I bought it and drove it in
high school after doing some limited restoration on it then. However,
we had to take it off the road because the steering wasn't working right
and it was weaving all over the road. Then I went to college and didn't
have time to work on it. Now I've been out for a few years and want to
get it back into shape. It's going to take a lot of work!

My question for today is this: While the truck has a Chevrolet grill
and tailgate, the instrument panel inside appears to be GM. It's not
the regular V-pattern that's supposed to be in Chevies. It has several
individual circular gauges. Is it likely that I have a re-badged GM?
All of the hood and fender emblems are gone.

Any suggestions?

Thanks! I'm looking forward to learning more about this group and its
members.

Jason
