Hi Andrew,

Before you take any thing apart buy a digital camera and take as many
pictures as you can (I throw mine on a CDROM) you will forget how things
went together. Get a supply of zip lock bags and mark them with description
of the contents as you remove things.
Get yourself the assembly manual and shop books for your truck a well known
auction site always has these.
I would go through the brakes if the truck has been sitting around the
rubber might be shot safety should come first.
If I ever do another truck restoration I would do all the body work first
paint the sheet metal and then do the frame, drive train it is the bodywork
that has slowed me down trying to learn as I go along but it is worth the
effort.

<How much is it going to cost to get minor body work, and a really good
paint
job both inside and out?>

If you have a body shop do this work it will cost a lot of money a really
good paint job comes from good body work and that takes time. If you do this
your self check out this discussion list on bodywork/painting
http://www.autobodystore.com/cgi-bin/config.pl?index.
I know a 1957 GMC truck owner whose cab went to a body shop for work and was
just moved around for a year he had to bug them to get it done insurance
jobs took priority over restoration so choose your shop carefully.

<Someone cut holes in the doors for speakers down at the bottom where it is
kind of wavy, can a body guy patch that, or do I need to look for new
doors?>

New repro fenders are available from this place now and doors, hoods are
coming call them for availability.

<Are there any good books out their for first timers (i.e. Restoring an Ole
Truck for Dummies)?>

by Tom Brownell (Paperback - May 1991)
This book is available from Amazon.com and covers restoration of a Advanced
