That's interesting.  The article says "The 1/2 ton owners can use the
3.55:1 saginaw setup from Patricks, Carter, etc."
http://50chevy.freeservers.com/Rearend.htm also mentions sticking with the
stock rear end and getting 3.55 gears from Patricks.

Has anyone done the swap on a 1/2 ton Chevy AD with Patrick's gears?  I
just called Patrick's and the guy said that it's a fairly simple install.
