My '57 3100 has an ashtray in the square hole on driverside and a sqaure
faceplate on the passengerside.
I think an ashtray on the passengerside was an option (which was optionally
fitted in the passengerside-hole)
The heater has an on/off switch in the dash for the heater-fan.
The heater is inside the cab (mounted at passengerside under the dash) and
has a manual flap to divert warm air towards the feet / and or the windows.
(flap and handle are situated on/in the heater)
No further controlls are present.
But some '57 chevy trucks have the "deluxe" heater wich has the controls
(two slides) under the center of the dash below the radio-holes.
