There were two styles of heaters available on these trucks as options.
They are both covered in the Accessory Installation Manual, which
is available from Chevy Duty and other vendors.
The first used cab air only and went under the passenger side of
the dash. This had a very simple rotary three position switch that
could be mounted on the passenger side blank on the dash or under
the dash on the lip.
The second was the Deluxe Heater also mounted under the passenger
side dash. This used inside or outside air and tapped into a hole
in the cowl vent above the vent opening. This had a fairly elaborate
heater control with levers for fan speed, inside or outside air,
heat or defrost, and temperature.
Both hooked up to the engine cooling water system for heat.
Both were pretty pathetic by Minnesota winter standards, but are
more than enough down to around 10 degrees F or so.
The basic heaters are pretty common on junkers around here and the
heater cores and controls can be replaced fairly readily with parts
from Chevy Duty and others.
You can also get new generic cab air heaters from places like J C
Whitney.
