Well here's what I'm thinking:

1. First off I'm thinking you have a bulb that is wrong for the socket
"the pins on the bulb are not aligning with the slots in the socket" and
this is allowing the two contacts on the bulb to make contact with the wire
supplying the current for either the brake or taillight .

2. If you connected your jumper wires off the left side wires coming from
the brake light and taillight "when they enter the pin connectors on the
body", you should have current going to the right side if the door is opened
or closed.

I would check to make sure my jumper wires from the left side are supplying
current to the right no matter the left door position "opened or closed".
You may have poor contact where you spliced the jumper wires to the right
side.

I would then take a meter and check both wires for continuity "see if both
wires in the right side bulb are in fact touching the same pin on the bulb
"due to an incorrect bulb" and replace the bulb.

I guess you haven't started to install the signals yet and are only getting
the stop and taillight working on the right side?
