Rich,
I have used strips of old carpet remnants about 2 ft wide and
8-10 ft long. You can always find old rugs and carpets if you know
where to look. Cut to length and toss out as they become nasty.
As George mentioned, cardboard from appliance stores works well also.
There are several 2 part cement floor epoxy paints but they often need very
clean surfaces and proper prepping.
