Hi,
Always use stranded wire in cars.  Without a soliloquy(sp?) on wire, use
16 gauge.   If you want a little overkill, use 14 gauge.  12 gauge is
too big.  Most cars seem to have 10 gauge feeding the fuse panel which
powers everything but the starter.   Also, the more strands in a
stranded wire, the better.  Connections are important.  Corrosion
thrives in areas where dissimilar metals try to pass current(i.e.  where
the aluminum connector is crimped to the copper wire).   But, I
digress....again.
