<< Hey,

I ordered some parts last week (so I can spend the weekend working on my
car) and asked if the air shipping required a signature. I was assured that
it did. Great, I'll just pick it up at UPS on my way home from work.

When I called today to follow up on my package, I was told by Moss customer
service that it had been left outside my apartment. When I asked who signed
for it, I was told it didn't need one.

So, I asked why I was told differently on Saturday. It seems (from a
different person) that only "overnight" air requires a signature. Also, it
was implied that the decision is up to the UPS driver.

Am I missing something here? Don't they just check off a box that says
"signature required" on the paperwork?

Alix,

Don't sweat it. If the box is not there, you never received it from Moss and
you owe them nothing. Moss will file a claim with UPS and you will get to
re-order the parts.

UPS guys make over 100 delivery stops a day (ever see one walk?, no they RUN)
and if they had to keep coming back until they got a signature, packages
would never get delivered.

The driver "driver released" the package. This is supposed to be in a
semi-secured area like a patio, or behind a plant, etc. His alternative was
to "indirect deliver" to a neighbor, or take it back to the terminal for
delivery tomorrow. One of the things he is judged on most is his "percent
delivered on-time". Most drivers strive for a 100% day every day.

If you want to insure he will hand you the box, order it COD. There is an
additional $3-4 charge, but you will see him then, or you'll have to pick it
up at the terminal yourself. They usually will only make three delivery
attempts.

Also, if you have a trusted neighbor, leave a conspicuous note on the door
for the driver to deliver there. As an alternative, have them deliver parts
to your office or place of employment.

Good luck, hope you get your parts. UPS would not do this if it were not
safe for the vast majority of their shipments.

R Houston
