Guys, guys, guys...let's keep in mind that these engines are at least 21 
years old, and the design goes back much farther.  One of the reasons British 
Leyland made the choice to drop the 1275 was because the TR 1500 engine had 
more power and would push a new, stock Midget over the 100 MPH mark.  (Add 
many disclaimers here.  I know a lot of your 1275s can probably do 100, and 
no USA spec Midget probably ever hit 100, but that's another story.)

They are both good engines, and they both have room for improvement.  If they 
were perfect engines, companies like Mini Mania wouldn't be in business.
