Wire wheel axles will fit in a steel wheel axle banjo but they are 3/8"

The cure for this is to punch out the welch plug inside the splined hub, then
pressing the exposed axle end the 3/8" in the direction of the banjo. This
puts a little more surface area of the splined axle end inside the diff to
help prevent snapping of the axle. Don't forget to put in a new welch plug,
or in a pinch appropriate sized rubber balls. Otherwise, your nice clean
diff lube ends up dripping over your nice clean brake shoes.
