Mike,
I urge you to find a way to get a 356 into your garage. They aren't that
much bigger than the Midget and I'd bet you could park the Midget
cross-ways, against the inner wall. Arrange some blocks on the floor, to
act as stops for the 356 and you should be fine.
As someone whose owned 356s for nearly 40 years, I think you'll be delighted
with the 356, but will be pleasantly surprised that the 356 will not cause
the Midget to loose it's charm.
Be sure to join the 356 Registry. It's a great club that offers tremendous
technical (and moral) support. Also, be sure to have a couple of 356
experts do a pre-purchase inspection, before you buy one. 356s are not at
all complicated but, compared to a Spridget, they are rather expensive to
maintain/restore/rebuild and there are MANY subtleties about them that only
years and years of hands-on experience will teach you. You can get
(financially) upside down in a 356 in a heartbeat, if you miss a fault or
two.
Subscribe to 356Talk, the 356 Registry's on-line talk list. Very well
organized and monitored and plenty of good information/helpful hints to be
had. You certainly should ask for help from 356Talk in your quest for a
356.
A properly set-up and maintained 356 is IMMENSELY satisfying to drive. They
demand total concentration and very quick reflexes, when driven near the
limit. Unlike the Spridget, they are not very forgiving of driver error.
But, the "hair-trigger" responsiveness of a good 356 on a winding, back-road
is something that no other car built since (including the newer Porsches)
can duplicate. Surface irregularities that trip-up the suspension of most
other cars are just eaten up by the 356. It's sort of like a super-star
athlete is to a high school athlete. I'm dying to get my 356 back in
operation (I guess it sort of shows, huh?).

Hi all,
Through this hail of viruses (virii?) maybe you multi car folks can give me
some advice on how to squeeze one more little car on my side of the garage.
I have a 2-car garage, and my wife will NOT give up her side. I9m thinking
hard about another car purchase (a 356), but I need to figure out how I can
get my 74 and the new one into my side of the garage. I9ve seen pics of
Gerards hoist system, but are there other possibilities? The ceiling is
either a 9 or 10 footer.
