When I was a kid I used a milk crate as a seat in a VW Bug that I had just put
in a new floor, so there was no interior in the car. Anyway it worked great.
I left the house and made several rights without a problem. Then I made a
left. At that point the milk crate tipped over and I was laying on the
passenager side floor (remember no seats) . I still have one hand on the
wheel but I am looking at the into the passager footwheel rolling down the at
about 20 MPH. With panic setting in I fling the milk crate into the back of
the car and get on my knees. Now I have both hands on the wheel, kneeling
looking out the window. I needed to put on the brakes and I realized that if
you are on your knees there is no way in hell you can push in the brake
pedal. I popped the car out of gear an then tried to press the brake pedal
with my hand. Another futile attempt to avoid disaster. There is not person
in the world who has an arm that long. In the end I steered around the the
car in front of me and coasted to a stop. After about 30 seconds I stood the
milk crate back up and drove off, never to forget that any left turn required
a hand on the floor.
