I would also far rather have a dedicated "Spridgets" event. Many of us
have MG's and would feel like a 5th wheel at an event which, by Reid's
description, is a "Sprite/Spridget" event. Though the descent of the
Midget is arguable, I see no reason to omit MG from the event lest
about 2/3rds of the Spridget owners feel alienated. I suppose the same
would be true if the event were co-located with an MG event? So I
have a question that I honestly do not know the answer to. How many
cars were badged MG and hoe many AH?? I was under the impression that
a lot more were badged MG, but I could be very wrong!
FWIW, I have arranged and hosted many motorcycle rallies. I learned a
long time ago that you can't please everyone. A number of these
marques have annual rallies that rotate around the country so that
every few years there is going to be one near where YOU live. This
event, however, is a very special one. My two cents is that it must be
centrally located in order to maximize accessibility for the greatest
number of Spridget owners. There are many great places in mid-USA
which lend themselves to the event. Branson, MO comes to mind. Of
course, people from both coasts may have trouble traveling so far, but
as Abe Lincoln said, "....but you can't please all of the people all
of the time".
Locate it centrally, and those who want to be there will find a way to
make it work. Those who don't find it "convenient" to their needs and
wishes will not regardless of where the event is located. An event
like this is pre-emminent and will certainly draw the hard-core
Spridget lovers. Wild horses wouldn't keep them away. The others are a
mixed bag. Some will come because it's convenient. Some will come just
to see what its all about. And finally, some will not come for
whatever reason, but mostly because it is not high enough on their
list of priorities. There is nothing any of us can do (including
moving the venue to accomodate a few) do to motivate people who fall
in the latter category.
We need to select a central location and start planning while we still
have time to make it an event worthy of the Spridget Golden
Anniversary.
My $.02 worth and probably worth about as much.
