     All;

-Before too much emotion creeps into this discussion, everyone needs
to ask themselves whether they want to stick with the stock set-up,
and then to "flow-chart" their decisions on a "go, no-go" basis based
on cost, hassle, personal taste, etc.

-Personally, I'd be a bit leery of ANY remote filter location any
where near a wheel well. I can't imagine blowing a tire at speed in a
curve and "taking out" the remote filter, already adding to loss of
handling. Replacing the engine would be the least of my worries at
this stage, but would arise later if I survived.

-Seeing that TIGER engine compartments are cramped, safer alternatives
can be found. My best compadre in my bracket-racing days had a
radiator shop MODIFY a fat-core radiator with an add-on cooling/filter
set-up on the bottom for the oil, just like "mom & dad's" cruiser had
for the automatic transmission cooler. He designed in an small air gap
between the oil cooler and the radiator core itself so the hotter oil
wasn't contributing to increasing the water temp. unlike the stock
     set-ups.

-When the PO of our TIGER had a fat-core radiator installed & THEY
forgot to re-solder on the air bleed tube, maybe I'll have my radiator
shop make me a combo cooler/remote filter attachment when I pull out
     my radiator?

     -Please advise, all opinions welcome.

                         Phil LeBrun

Richard,

My Tiger has one, came with it when I bought it 18 mo ago. Its mounted
under the left fender just aft of the headlight. One day last July, on the
eve of the PTC meet in WA, the pressure hose came off and pumped all the
engine oil overboard before you could say "oh my gosh!" while going down
the highway. My wife had the car at the time and called me saying "honey,
the car just slowed down and stopped, now it won't even turn over." Engine
seized, later developed a rod knock. Am now replacing said engine WITHOUT
a remote oil filter.

Just curious here, does anyone use a remote oil filter system on their
Tiger? You know the type that has a special adapted you put on the
engine in place of the filter, and two hoses that go from that adapter
up to another special cast aluminum piece that has either a single or
dual filters hanging down. These allow increasing the oil capacity by
one to 2 quarts (1qt for the extra filter + 1qt for the oil in the
hoses).

I have always liked these things, and just wondered if any Tiger owners
were using them.
