     I don't know the solution, but I know one way to prevent it in the 
     future.  There were two types of hood releases:  The SOLID ROD on the 
     early cars, and the later BICYCLE BRAKE CABLE. They are 
     interchangeable with no cutting or other mods, so watch for folks 
     parting out earlier Tigers and Alpines.  Snag a solid rod and bolt it 
     in.  I did this on my '67 1A.
