I purchased a timing tape of the correct length from "Mr. Gasket". It is for a
Ford. Most places want to sell you one for a Chevy. The correct part number is
MRG-1594, and it sells for $6.95. It is for a 6 3/8" diameter dampner as used
on 289, 302, 351 and some 390's. The dampner must be COMPLETELY clean of all
dirst, grease, flaky paint, rust or this thing will fall off. Suggest careful
use of acetone and even fine emory. As Bob has pointed out, the "TDC" mark may
not be correct, due to dampner slippage, or just the wrong one. Check the
indicator as well. Marks are every degree, with numbered thru lines every 10
degrees.
