Just thought I'd pass on a little bit of my own experience. I too had a
problem with my speedo. It started with an irratic reading and then gave up
the ghost all together. I sent it off to Margaret at MOMA for repair. In our
discussion she indicated (as has been stated by others on the list) that the
cable I was running was too long; more specifically, the length between the
crimp ring and the end of the cable that fits into the back of the speedo.
She was nice enough to point me in the direction of a speedo shop in No.
Hollywood that would be able to rework the end so that it wouldn't wreck the
newly repaired unit. Unfortunately, I was unable to get down there so, I
talked with her further about doing the rework myself. To make a long (and
possibly boring story) short, by using a Dremel Moto-Tool (I'm sure familiar
to most) and a cut-off wheel, I was able to cut about .125" off the end of
the cable that fits into the back of the speedo leaving the crimp ring where
it was at. In my case, I was able to get a square, clean cut without
"splintering" the end of the cable. It's never given me any trouble since.
Just my experience, for what it's worth.
