Bumper bolt holes vs jack points, and rationale for choice.

While the discussion seems to center on relative strength,
and reductions due to corrosion influencing choice, a good
look at some of the stripped Tigers will quickly reveal that
these are all part of the same frame horn, one above the
other, within inches.

Other than the shear loads on the bolts, or the additional
fabrication of the rectangular jack mount inserts, it seems
to be 6 of one and 1/2 dozen of the other.

Kind of liked the Heavy Duty Engine stand pair as a base.
They collapse to store (between body-off rebuilds), and have
other applications. Mass produced, they are cheap enough.
The height is adjustable, depending upon what you are
working on.

I did see a completely different commercial device, a
home-built version has been described. This unit attaches to
(I believe) the wheels studs and curves under the car in an
arc while still on all four wheels. The commercial version
uses a drill motor to rotate the car, like a cradle, around
this curve till it is at about a 45 degree angle.
Supposedly this can be done on a completely assembled car
with all fluids on board. Allows easy stand-up access to
the bottom of the car. Can always be reversed if you can't
get at something on the lower side. The whole car goes up
(or around) with one unit.

Main adavantage is you can work on a car, not just a shell.

Anyone experienced with this device?

Steve
