The only way to ensure that the throwout (release) bearing is not riding on
the clutch fingers in a hydraulic actuated clutch is to add a pull-back
spring to the throwout bearing arm. Tigers did not come with such a spring
and, as a consequence, they have a tendency to wear out the throwout
bearings prematurely. Attach one end of a reasonably stout spring to the
hole at the end of throwout bearing arm, and the other to a convenient
place, and adjust it such that when it is fully collapsed, there is just
small amount of free motion of the slave piston before pressure is actually
applied to the clutch fingers. You can fashion some kind of attachment
point for the other end of the spring that bolts on with one of the two
bolts that mount the slave cylinder, for example. Without such a pullback
spring, any free pedal you feel is just that due to the spring on the
clutch pedal, which has no effect on the position of the throwout bearing arm.
