Larry,

I went to the MSD Web site and took a quick look at the Installation
Instructions for the MSD -6. This is a much more comprehensive document
than the one they used twenty years ago. Here's the URL:

http://www.msdignition.com/

MSD specifically recommends the spiral wires and, in fact, sell this type.
Regarding "solid core" wires, they state: "Excessive EMI, such as the
amount that sold core wires produce, will interfere with the operation of
the MSD." Sounds like this was written by MSD's legal department. EMI is
Electro-Magnetic Interference. I believe it refers to radio frequency (rf)
emissions that are broadcast; e.g., that would make your radio noisy. Radio
interference might fall under their definition of "interfere with the
operation of", I'm not sure. If it could really break their unit, you'd
think they would void the warranty unless the proper plug wires were used.
I still suspect they put this in to placate the FCC. They don't want some
poor guy not to be able to use his cell phone or listen to his favorite
soft music station in his car because the guy next to him in traffic has an
MSD putting out lots of EMI. Would be particularly bad if he had a LAT-79
plastic hood too.
