In my humble opinion this is a BAD idea. Thread dies are very hard and
brittle. Hitting with a hammer (precision adjustment tool) would cause two
things: Breaking the die and damaging the threads. Instead use a sacrificial
(it's cheap enough that you can throw it away when you are done) nut to
protect the threads. Make sure the nut is flush with the outer end of the
threads and you will not need to recut them. If you use a brass, lead, or
dead blow hammer, you will be less likely to damage anything and also have a
greater impact.
