While Google is technically correct in that "Velcro" as a name and commercial 
product was originated in 1948, it was developed by the French in W.W.II, 
along with the Zodiac inflatable boat and several other indispensable everyday 
items. 
One might assume that "Velcro" was a product developed from past "quick 
reversal of fortunes" situation mostly related to rapid retreats over a period 
of 
200 plus years (Ha Ha).
