as i recall, lord rootes called ford and placed a single order. an educated
guess is that ford would have made a "run" of 260's to fill that order, thus
making the casting date a narrow band of numbers.B but who knows?B probably
no-one.

in any event, the engine would pre-date the car.

B B B B B B B B You are correct the build date code is very important and the
engine
should be have a build date before the assembly date of the your Tiger but
if for any reason there was a problem with that engine a replacement could
have been installed with a totally different build date. B B There is an 8
month difference between my 260 engine build date and the assembly date for
my Tiger.

B B B B B B B B I believe there are very narrow build dates for Tiger engine
also.
I believe Ford's Cleveland engine Plant was capable of casting and building
around 1000 engines per 8 hour shift but I have no specific facts to back
that up. B I also believe most of the Tiger engines were cast and built
during slow times, near Holiday times and around shut down times to least
interrupt the normal Ford production. B The last build of 260 engines For
the Tiger were built during the time Ford was only building 289's so that
group of engines had to be build during a time frame(s) that least
interfered with Ford's needs to build 289 engines.

Tom's right. B Corvette's have their body serial number matching their engine
number but Ford's don't. Nobody has commented on the most important number
though.. that's the engine build date, stamped on a boss on the front of the
block just in front of the driver's side head.. B9470622 has the original
engine with a build code of 4C31?? (cant read it right now). B 4 means 1964,
C means the third month (March),
31 means the 31st day (March 31, 1964) if I recall correctly. B I think
the car was built in May or June 1964 so everything matches up..
