Jim, check the archives. I just did this, and am waiting for some free time
to put my car back together.

The only thing that really worked for me was to cut the shaft. I takes
about 10 minutes with a good hacksaw. The shafts are ony about $25, and
it's the fork that you really want to save.

The design of the taper-pin assembly is really bad, and just replacing the
taper pin without replacing the shaft and fork too would be futile. The
pocket in the fork where the taper pin seats gets ovaled over time, and I
believe this leads to the taper pin stressing and breaking. The only real
solution to this is to follow the instructions from the list and at the
Buckeye Triumphs website, and install a grade 8 cross bolt along with a new
pin. That's what I did.

The bolt I used was one I picked out that's shoulder went almost through the
entire hole. I then cut-off the end of the bolt after the nyloc nut, and
locktighted the whole mess. Again, see the Buckeye Triumphs website and the
archives.

I also had the pleasure of breaking the new taper pin, as the tolerances of
the new pin and new shaft worked against each other. My solution was to
find an old TR4 pin I had, and use it along with the grade 8 through bolt.

HTH, Kevin
