Pim---It would help to know if you want to improve your hill climb
times, or just generally improve the power of your '73. Also, the
maximum rpms you want to see, and what gears are used in this 20 second
climb.

So far as "bang for the buck" goes, it's hard to improve, money wise, on
what Kastner did when he wrote the Competition Preparation Manual for
these cars. (Available from any of the Big Three parts suppliers.) The
short story here is you'll want to increase the compression ratio about
two points to 9.75:1, or a little less, depending on the octane rating
available at your area's filling stations.
A good cam that will allow the engine to breathe past 5,000 rpm, and
lighten the flywheel a few pounds to get things going a little quicker.
All of this can be done for about (5000 Krone?) $500 U.S., parts only,
with you doing the work, of course.
Flywheel machining goes for about $50.
Stock carburetion will still give adequate performance, with some
richening of the mix.
Anything you can do to take off overall vehicle weight at the time of
the trials will obviously help the cause.

Bring on the Miatas!
