Steel. A MIG is my tool of choice for this. Have you checked all the
other choices? I.E.
worn out rubber mounts, u-joints, play in diff, hub bearings?
Your buddy may be referring to broken 'ears' on the diff rear case being
made of Al. That's the only place it's used in the back of the car.
