Well, I had to report back. I used straight acetylene gas and got the pipe
glowing cherry red all round. I heated and pulled, heated and pulled. Forget
it, not coming apart that way!
Finally gave up and used my Dremel tool with a cut-off wheel. I had to slit
the pipe all the way back to the end of the header pipe before it let loose.
I don't know if it was the Jet-Hot on the header, the exhaust sealer, or a
reaction between the two, but it was really stuck together.
I'm thinking of replacing this slip joint with a flange set-up. Anyone done
this?
