Recently, there was discussion regarding air compressors. I would like to
piggyback that discussion to ask about air tools
My wife got me a pretty capable air compressor (nicer than I would have bought
for myself) and now it's time to purchase some tools to use with it.
I don't plan on getting into painting (at least not in the near future) so I'm
thinking an impact wrench and a ratchet are probably good choices to start out
with.
In just checking out impact wrenches and ratchets at Sears and Home Depot I was
almost overwhelmed by the number of sizes, types, models, torque ranges, etc.
that exist (sometimes I forget that this is America) for brands like Husky,
Companion, Craftsman and Ingersoll-Rand. How does anyone unknowledgeable
person ever make a decision on which to buy?
My preference is to look for quality tools (can last a life time with proper
maintenance) that might cover the widest range of TR6 uses. I must keep in
mind that any expenditures for tools cuts into what I can currently spend on
improving my car, so I want to approach this wisely.
Even though I drive a TR6, my preference is to buy American made tools where
possible.
I would certainly appreciate any advice regarding type of tool, brand, size,
etc. from those of you who may have gone down this path before or who have a
history of working with air tools on Triumphs.
