I apologize if this issue has been beaten to death in the past and I just
missed seeing information about it in the archives.
I bought my 69 TR6 last summer, and I would like to hear
opinions/recommendations regarding the need (or not) to use a specific oil
viscosity. I am getting ready to change the oil for the first time, and have
no idea what oil viscosity is currently in the engine. The oil is in pretty
good shape, but I just purchased a spin-on adapter from BPNW so I want to
change it out.
Does viscosity really matter (within reason) if the oil is changed every 2500
miles? I would rather not add another viscosity (I read 20/50 is the
recommended) to my garage inventory if I don't need to. I have 10/40 for my
boat, 10/30 for my turbo Volvo, 5/30 synthetic for my Toyota truck and 30
weight for mower, tiller, chipper, etc. I suppose one more weight would not
really matter, but it would be nice if 10/40 or 10/30 would have no ill
affects.
I would like to hear opinions/recommendations regarding the need (or not) to
use a specific oil viscosity. I'm just a weekend driver who doesn't drive the
car hard.
Also, regarding the oil filter, BPNW told me to use a standard Ford oil filter
(the bigger the better) that was used on a lot of Fords between 1980 and 1995.
From checking the archives, it appears the PH3600 is a good fit, and includes a
relief valve. I would be happy to hear any recommendations/opinions about this
filter or other alternatives.
