Just a post-log on this one:
We were lucky to find that the brown wire from the battery connection to the
headlight switch had burned itself out of the wiring harness with apparently
no harm to other wires. We replaced it and installed a 30amp circuit breaker
just inside the firewall. Oh, it fried the switch also, so new one is on the
way. Otherwise it's back together and on the road.
