My dad and I drove one this past weekend, and he will be getting one.
We drove it back-to-back with his '97 Boxster, and the S has a LOT more
power, and with the six-speed, the ratios feel better (but I have yet
to run the numbers). The gearbox also feels much, much easier to
shift, and the closer ratios make rev-matching easier and quicker.

We drove a stripped-down model -- no traction control, no 030
suspension, base 17" wheels. This car felt much softer than Dad's,
with the stiffer (030) suspension. Hopefully the Boxster S with the
030 suspension will be appropriately stiff.
