Let's take a scenario:

Husband and wife both autocross. It's an hour to get to an event, they want
to get there early so they leave at 6AM. They stay the day, pick up their
trophies and leave a say, 6 PM and get home at 7 PM. They are gone for 13
hours. To ask a dog to wait that long between breaks is inhumane. No, they
don't 'need' the dog at the autocross, but not to bring it is a greater
burden.

Rocky may want to stay out of New England. I can think of at least three or
four regular canine participants. They are welcome as long as they are on a
leash and they stay out of grid.

Ultimately, IMHO, nobody *needs* a dog at an autocross (or road race). They
are usually brought because it is more convenient than arranging some care
for them at home. And most of the time the time away for an autox is no more
than the time away going to work, so what's the big deal about leaving it at
home? Do you bring a dog to a play? A movie? A concert? Work? Ballgames?
Museums? Amusement Parks? Or, even a race if you are sitting in the
grandstands? Then why must it be brought if you are a participant at the
motorsport contest?
