Internet may be a bad deal. Testing the exact same helmet for fit is
important.
I'd try the biggest and cheapest motorcycle supply store for an HJC helmet,
then try them on for size and fit. HJC seems to be the least-expensive
Snell helmet.
I may break with tradition and get a closed-face hat this time. Getting my
glasses on has been a problem. I used a track-owned helmet when I went
kart-racing this weekend (and yes, before you say it, the karts had seat
belts). It took one second to put the helmet on and five minutes to get my
eyeglass temples over my ears. I know Bill Fuhrmann had or has a helmet
which allows him to put his glasses on first, but I don't know what kind it
is or what it costs. I'm cheap, too, Mark. :-)
The TR4 has no shoulder-belts, so smacking my face on the steering wheel
might become a consideration. Still, most of my autocrossing is *supposed*
to be with the Lotus, and since it is a closed car with marginal
ventilation, I prefer the open-face. I can sit with my glasses on and
helmet off until I am only one car back from the start, then pop on my
helmet. (That's how it gets all the minor paint scratches from the
fiberglass roof!)
