Hi Jim and Paul,

Jim, you and I have curiously different materiel to consult. I have
opened up a number of SD1s and Vitesses. I have never found a set of
gaskets on either manifolds or heddars. The shop manual and the Haynes
manual both warn of cleaning the surfaces after removal "as no gasket is
used between the two parts" p.62 Rover 3500 1976 to 1987.

As Paul states, it is now recommended that exhaust gaskets be used and
there are those made specifically for the engine. I change mine whenever
I remove my heddars. Considering the caution of dealing with an aluminum
block I would avoid lock washers and go for the flanges made
specifically for this. There are also stainless exhaust bolts made for
the V8s as well.
