Hi Ben - I've recently been inside my 5speed, and couldn't help learning
a bit about the four speeds at the same time. Reverse (and 5th if so
equipped) are on a separate shift fork than 1&2 and 3&4. It seems perplexing,
to say the least, that you could have screwed up that fork just by fiddling
with the speedo gear.

What do you feel when you try to put the trans in R? Nothing, nada, nobody
home? Or a sorta-stiff sliding motion? If it's the latter, I suspect you
may have sheared the pin that holds the R fork to the shift rod. Or will
the shifter just not go into the R position?
