That sorta business seems ** way** outta line!!! Did you get a written
estimate ? Of course, resto work always has it's hidden costs.
When I was doing service writing back in WA state, there were several state
laws re: estimates & extra costs. Every shop is required to post a written
notice stating the laws - ALL items going over the orig est. must either have
written or verbal approval. Non-compliace & your shop gets shut down pronto.
I'ts really in the best interest of both the shop & the customer to verify
overage - being on the up & up saves a lot of hassles.
May wanna check w/ your state AG to see what you can do if they won't bend on
the un-auth work. !!!
OTOH - credit for trying to save the hood !!
